Super Metro: Bus Community Eulogises Young Female Conductor Who Died in Ahero Accident

 

A fatal crash occurred near Awasi along the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway, claiming the lives of numerous passengers on board a Super Metro bus. The tragic incident left scores of passengers feared dead, prompting an outpouring of grief and condolences from the bus company and the larger community. Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Allan Mwangi disclosed that 53 passengers were admitted to Ahero Sub-county Hospital and others to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH). Super Metro transport company confirmed the accident in a sombre statement, expressing their deepest sympathies to the grieving families and wishing a swift recovery to those hospitalised. We would wish to convey a message of condolences to the families that have lost their loved ones and a quick recovery to those who are in the hospital. In our thoughts and prayers," read the Facebook post. Among those who died in the 2am accident were the two drivers and a young female conductor identified as Naomi Mwangi. Naomi's untimely demise has left a void in the hearts of her colleagues, fans, and the broader bus community. The loss of both drivers further compounds the tragedy, leaving the fraternity in unexplainable anguish. Members of the bus community have taken to social media to share their condolences and express their sorrow. Bus community mourned Naomi Gich Earnest: "So sad Naomi will never be going back home again. ...Rest in eternal peace ️.... together with your Crews and the passengers who succumbed." Jimmy Gitau reflected on Naomi's dedication and hard work, saying: "Ooh my goodness, such a young soul dedicated and hardworking, shine on your way, girl and Rip." Nyaguthii Wanjiru, who had a personal connection with Naomi, expressed disbelief and urged others to cherish every moment: "I still can’t believe this. Rest in peace, Naomi Mwangi. We met in Kampala last year and became friends. How life can be short. Cherish every moment. Rest easy." Kelvin Gitau: "Aki woishe Naomi. May the Almighty Lord and the guardian angels guide her to eternal rest." Martins Choi Abincha: "Na vile huyu mrembo alikuwa mpole. Always giving us confidence and ensuring no passenger was left behind after every stop. Pole sana." What you need to know: The ill-fated vehicle, known affably as Korn, was en route from Kampala to Nairobi when the accident occurred in Othoo Market. Six of the survivors who were receiving medical care at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu succumbed, bringing the death toll to 17. The incident occurred two weeks after another Super Metro tout known as Keith died in a different accident.
