Ruto breaks silence over death of Meru blogger ‘Sniper’

 

President William Ruto has for the first time commented on the mysterious death of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani Bernard alias Sniper.

At a public address in Meru on January 26, 2023, the Head of State assured the residents that his government will ensure that those who killed the controversial blogger are brought to book.

“On the issue of Sniper, as the government, we have given an order that those who killed him must be arrested and face the wrath of the law,” vowed the President.

President Ruto added that going forward, the government will seek tough punishment against those who kill the youth.

The Head of State wqas accompanied by local leaders including area Governor Kawira Mwangaza whom, incidentally, has several family members linked to the murder.

Ruto’s comments come days after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) preferred murder charges against two suspects.

They are Murangiri Kenneth Guantai alias Tali, Gorvernor Mwangaza’s brother and Vincent Mureithi Kirimi, otherwise referred to as Supuu.

Mr Guantai is a police officer, attached to Governor Mwangaza’s security team.

The governor has severally distanced her family from the death of blogger, which attracted the attention of the public as Kenyans from all walks of life called for justice for the young family of the deceased activist.

The county boss, who’s tenure at the helm of Meru county has been hit by one controversy after another including a failed impeachment motion, has incisted that her family is innocent.

The governor maintains her family will be exonerated from the murder case in the fullness of time, the remarks that came a day after her husband Murega Baichu, and her sister, Miriam Guantai were grilled by the detectives.

“Calm in the midst of the storm. Lies can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on shoes. We shall overcome gloriously with God’s grace,” Governor Mwangaza said.
