Religious Leader Bugingo Escapes Unharmed as Gunmen Assault His Convoy

A shocking act of violence unfolded in Kampala, Uganda, as prominent religious leader and businessman Aloysius Bugingo narrowly escaped an attack by unidentified gunmen. While his bodyguard, Richard Muhumuza, tragically succumbed to bullet wounds, Bugingo sustained injuries but managed to drive himself to a nearby hospital.

Details remain scarce, but initial reports suggest the gunmen opened fire on Bugingo’s vehicle as he returned home Tuesday night in the Namungoona area. Witness accounts describe the assailants fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.

Despite the trauma and pain of the attack, Bugingo showed remarkable resilience, seeking medical attention himself. Unfortunately, his bodyguard, Mr. Muhumuza, could not be saved.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, reviewing CCTV footage and scouring the tampered crime scene. While the motive remains unclear, police have classified the attack as an attempted murder.

Adding to the chilling nature of this event is the recent surge in gun violence in Kampala, claiming the lives of several prominent figures.

Bugingo, known as the founder of House of Prayer Ministries International, is a vocal supporter of Uganda’s ruling party. This raises questions about whether the attack was politically motivated or purely criminal in nature.

As the investigation unfolds, one thing remains certain: this brutal assault has shaken the Ugandan community and left a dark mark on the nation’s capital.
