Police officer shoots self dead in Samburu
A police constable was found dead after he had shot himself in the head at Suguta Marmar police station, Samburu County.
The body of the officer was on January 4 found in a pool of blood in his house moments after he had shot himself.
Police said he shot himself through the mouth and the bullet exited the back of his head.
The motive of the tragedy is yet to be known.
Police who visited the scene said they found him lying on his back on the bed in his unihut while holding his G3 rifle and its safety catch opened at letter F.
Upon examining the body it was established that the bullet entered through the chin and exited through the right side of the back of the head.
Further two spent cartridges were found at the scene, one loaded magazine with 15 rounds and one round in the rifle chamber making a total of 18 rounds less by two rounds since he had expended two rounds during an incident in the Leparshao area, police said.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further probe.
On January 2, a police officer died after he shot himself in the mouth at the Kangema police station, in Murangá County.
Police said he shot himself while at work in the mouth using a weapon assigned to him on Tuesday, January 2 evening.
The motive of the incident is yet to be known.
