Photo of Uhuru Kenyatta Warmly Hugging Janet Museveni Sparks Reactions: "Mum and Son"
A photo of retired president Uhuru Kenyatta and Uganda's First Lady Janet Museveni has elicited reactions on social media. Uhuru Kenyatta flew to Uganda for talks with President Yoweri Museveni. How did Janet Museveni welcome Uhuru Kenyatta? The former head of state landed in Uganda after witnessing the Democratic President of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi’s inauguration and was warmly received by Janet. The image posted by State House, Uganda, depicted the warmly embracing. Uhuru had his arms on her shoulders and seemed in high spirits as he smiled. He donned one of his signature flowered shirts. Janet, on the other hand, embraced him with one arm and held a purse with another. Many netizens who reacted to the image said it was proof of the close relations between the East African countries. Here are some of the comments: @T_E_F_L_O_N “Mom-son hugs.” @IamTheVillager: “Kenya, Uganda collaboration. Here in Kenya, the Judiciary is doing God's work.” Why was Uhuru in Uganda? Part of Uhuru and Museveni's engagement was on the state of the process toward peace in the eastern DRC, where the M23 rebels have been facing off with the government troops, leading to a humanitarian crisis. State House Uganda explained that Uhuru showed up to brief Museveni on the talks. "The facilitator of the EAC-led Nairobi Peace Process, H.E. President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta, briefed H.E Kaguta Museveni on the progress of the ongoing efforts to restore peace in Eastern DRC," said Sandor Walusimbi, the senior press secretary to Museveni.
