Nairobi: Woman Pours Boiling Cooking Oil on Neighbour for Allegedly Copying Her Hairstyle

Catherine Wanjiru, woman who poured hot cooking oil on her neighbour's face for allegedly copying her hairstyle. What happened between the neighbours? According to police investigations, Catherine Wanjiru, the suspect, is accused of causing severe burns to Sherry Nyanchomba's face by pouring boiling cooking oil on her. NTV Kenya reported that on January 16, Nyanchomba encountered Wanjiru at their Dandora residence gate around midnight. The suspect, noticing a resemblance in their hairstyles, accused Nyanchomba of copying her. The duo, donning short hair, had similar dye paints. The accused reportedly went to a nearby fish vendor's stand, where she allegedly seized a fryer spoon and proceeded to pour hot oil on Nyanchomba's face. This escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in the dislocation of Nyanchomba's teeth as Wanjiru forcefully held onto her jaw. Nyanchomba received medical attention at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Embakasi before the matter was reported to the police. Wanjiru denies charges However, upon appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku at the Makadara Law Courts, Wanjiru denied the charges. She was granted release on a KSh 50,000 bond and an alternative cash bail of KSh 20,000. The case is slated for mention on March 6, with the hearing scheduled to commence on May 30, 2024. Woman arrested for assaulting husband In 2022, a 23-year-old woman was detained after she purportedly beat her 33-year-old husband like a dog. Shantel Mutheu was enraged after her husband failed to settle their house utility bills. She was taken to the Buruburu police station as neighbours rushed the assaulted victim to the hospital as he was bleeding profusely.
