Mike Sonko Leaks Phone Call Between Him and Congestina's Son, Clears Himself: "I Did My Best"

 

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has vindicated himself after Kenyans accused him of using renowned boxer Congestina Achieng's case as a PR stunt. Mike Sonko lectured Congestina Achieng's family for watering down his efforts to help the boxer. A day ago, TUKO.co.ke reported the veteran boxer, who was taken into rehab by Mike Sonko in 2022, had returned to her village in Yala. Media personality Carol Radull shared photos of herself and the boxer while lamenting that the athlete's situation was out of her hands. Why Mike Sonko almost gave up on Congestina However, Sonko, in his rebuttal, leaked a phone call conversation that he had with Congestina's son, Charlton Otieno. In the phone call, he read the upcoming boxer and accused his family of watering down his efforts to help Congestina. "I cannot be doing Congestina's work all the time, and the Kenyans I am helping are so many. You should also play your part as a family. When she goes home, you let her go back to smoking. It is expensive. This process is very expensive," he said. Sonko got angry while narrating how now he has to start afresh in helping the boxer by taking her back to rehab. "It is wasting my money and time, and it is not right. I did my best. The treatment is expensive, and paying doctors is also equally very expensive. This is embarrassing, and it looks like PR that I keep doing and abandoning," he said. However, the veteran politician offered to give the boxer a last chance and cautioned the family to do what is expected of them, or he would give up on them. "You will be the ones to go to Siaya; look for her so that I can send people to come and get her," he said. He also claimed that Congestina got pissed that she was asked to board a bus, yet Sonko used a flight to get to Nairobi. In June 2023, Sonko offered her a gym instructor job at one of his business premises to keep her busy after leaving the hospital. The philanthropist also once stepped out with Congestina for a day in the office, and she played his bodyguard, trailing him, leaving netizens commending him for transforming her life. The boxer's fashion statement and glow wowed Kenyans as she wore an all-white suit while carrying Sonko's briefcase.
