Meet Kenyan who has trademarked the word 'Msaidizi'

 

A Kenyan author has successfully trademarked the word Msaidizi. The man going by the name Pius Mithika explained his reasoning.

"The reason I trademarked the word Msaidizi is because this is what I have known all my life. I started using the name Msaidizi when I was in class five. So it has reached a point where some people don't even know my actual official name."

Mithika in a video on Nairobi Gossip further adds

"I thought about it and said maybe it is time I took ownership so the word Msaidizi going forward cannot be used in the following areas; anything entertainment, sporting and cultural activities arranging and conducting of concerts, congresses, conferences, education, providing of training arranging and conducting of in-person educational reforms etc."

Msaidizi lives in New York City but misses Kenyan a lot. He is the author of a book called The Boy Who Beleived. He said that launching this book was his wildest dream

"He who fears turbulence remains at the shore, never to taste the pain and joy of the struggle and the bliss of success at the end of it all. At the age of just 7 years when I was chased away from home, I didn’t know I was going to live by these words as I struggled to carve out a path for myself," he penned on his Instagram

Mithika is finishing his Masters Degree at Michigan State University. 

There are five steps to get a trademark in Kenya. A trademark protects certain words and designs, their variations and combinations that distinguish your brand from another.

It protects the intellectual property and the use of a specific symbol or idea. Copyright, on the other hand, protects distinct creative works.
