Man’s body exhumed in his homestead 12 years after disappearance
The body of former Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) Silvanus Tubei who went missing twelve years ago has been exhumed in a shallow grave at his home in Keiyo South, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The two hour exercise was conducted by homicide police officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) from Iten police station.
This was after the police detectives moved to Iten court where they were granted an order allowing them to move to the scene and exhume the remains of the deceased.
Hundreds of Kabiemit villagers thronged the deceased’s home as early as 7am to have a glimpse of the exhumation exercise that was carried out under tight security.
A team of police officers who had been deployed at the former KVDA official’s home since Wednesday were forced to cordon off the scene where the decomposed body had been buried after members of the public tried to storm the scene.
Separated from wife
The deceased who lived alone after separating from his wife, vanished mysteriously without trace on September 12, 2012.
His palatial home has been deserted since he went missing until three days ago when his remains were discovered by a gardener, buried in a shallow grave a few metres away from his house.
The gardener is said to have stumbled upon a blanket buried in the ground and upon checking, discovered a human skeleton.
It also emerged that the clothes which the deceased wore the morning he went missing matched those inside the blanket.
The body was transported by the scene of crime officers to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary in Eldoret where a DNA test will be carried out to confirm if it matches that of Tubei besides establishing the circumstances under which he lost his life.
