Eleven people have been confirmed dead following a grisly accident involving a bus and a lorry at the Othoo area of Nyando sub-county along the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway. Eleven people have been killed in an accident involving a Super Metro bus and a truck along the Nairobi-Kisumu highway. Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Allan Mwangi has confirmed the incident, saying other 53 passengers were admitted to Ahero Sub-county Hospital and others to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) following the 2:30am accident. Mwangi said two women, eight men, and a teenage boy aged between three and four years were killed in the accident.  "Both the two vehicles are damaged, and we can say for now around 10 people dead and a child who is around 3 to 4 years old succumbed," Thuo said as reported by Citizen TV. Mwangi said the accident occurred when a Super Metro bus, which was heading towards Nairobi, collided head-on with an oncoming lorry ferrying sugar, killing the 11 instantly. The bus company also confirmed that there were deaths and sent a message of condolences to the bereaved families. "We would wish to convey a message of condolences to the families that have lost their loved ones and a quick recovery to those who are in the hospital. In our thoughts and prayers," read a Facebook message by Super Metro.
