Kilifi County Top School Rejects KCSE Results: "We're Shocked"

A top-performing private school in Kilifi county disputed the recently released 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results. CS Ezekiel Machogu releases KCSE results on January 8.  Arabuko Forest High School rejected the recently released KCSE results despite being the top performer in Kilifi county. The school administration claimed the result was not a true reflection of the student’s performance abilities.  According to the school Principal, Alwai Rashid, the mean grade of B- (8.14) was far below their target, which was 9.12 “Concerning the 2023 KCSE results, we feel there were challenges that we cannot state in detail because we are shocked, we had big expectations, and we did not expect a mean grade of B-. We were expecting a performance far better considering the preparations we made for our candidates in the year 2023,” Rashid said, as reported by NTV. Unlike other years, which have seen the school record several A-s, in 2023, their leading four candidates had a grade of B+. Rashid said it was strange for their top student to score B+, yet for years, they have been having several As. He also wondered how students whom the school did not expect to shine outperformed those with a track record of good performance.  “We had the best students who did not score the result that we expected, and then there are students who were not performing well in class but recorded good results, and this has confused us,” he added.
