Kayole: Policeman Lauded for Advising Locals Against Stealing in Viral Video

A police officer in Kayole, Nairobi, has earned praise for speaking to the youth against engaging in crime. Kenyans celebrated a Kayole police officer's policing method. What did Kayole cop say? This starkly contrasts the often bullish and forceful actions of the police in Kenya while maintaining law and order. Armed with an AK-47 rifle, the soft-spoken officer, only identified as Chege, sought to win hearts and minds, saying the cost of crime was too heavy to bear.  Chege said the high cost of living was affecting all and warned the youth against using poverty as an excuse to commit crimes. He explained that it is well documented that the youth are struggling to find jobs to better their prospects in life, but crime is not an option. The police officer warned that it should not take the criminal justice system to reform an individual's criminal behaviour. According to Chege, crime is not a shortcut to wealth, status or power. It only adds to the misery and suffering. Chege reiterated that the law will catch up eventually with criminals, but until it does, earning even a little more through legitimate work is fulfilling. The message augured well with Kenyans on social media who watched the clip and celebrated the officer for his non-violent tactics. Fidlives: "The type of police doing their work and building good relations with citizens.” Dennoh_official_officia: "He deserves a promotion.” derroll7: "Big up to Officer Chege. NPS should promote that guy. He is so polite and calm." Patoostarman: "May God bless this officer." Rebman44: " Give him his flowers when he is still alive. This is a pure soul." Afrikato: "We need a tour company to take him for a holiday.” How did cop help stranded man? Chege's action is the latest gesture by police officers who choose to see the best in humanity. In 2023, Christine Mugambi from Jogoo House AP Headquarters changed the narrative surrounding her profession. This is after she offered help to Charles Waweru from Kitui, who was robbed of his valuables shortly after arriving in Nairobi. Mugambi gave out her phone for Waweru to call and inform his kin and was willing to give him fare back to Kitui.
