Migaeli was a student at St. Augustine Mlimani Secondary School, a day secondary institution in Lugari, Kakamega county. "I was a day scholar because that is the school that we could afford, and I am glad that I have scored a grade that has inspired many of my counterparts. I used to wake up at 3 a.m. to revise my notes and work on my assignments," she told TUKO.co.ke. "All I have told those who thought I was in boarding and a national school is that I am a product of a sub-county day school. She was glad that she could inspire hope in fellow girls in her village, a significant number who hardly make it to the exam room because of early pregnancies and marriages. "For the past four years, I focused on what had taken me to school. I aimed to get a grade to secure a good medical course at the university. I want to overcome poverty in my family because my father's income from riding a boda boda cannot take care of all our needs together with my siblings," Migaeli explained. University sponsorship appeal Her father, Oliver Kisia Mwewe, is a boda boda rider who makes about KSh 400 on a good day, an amount that can barely cater to the entire family's needs as a breadwinner. She appealed for sponsorship to transition to university, promising she would do even better in her post-secondary studies. "Whatever he gets largely goes to purchasing food for me and my siblings, and I would be glad if I got a well-wisher to help me smoothly transition to university and pursue my dream career," Migaeli added. Moi High School Kabarak topped the 2023 KCSE, recording impressive grades and ensuring all its 401 candidates proceeded straight to university.
