Joy Muthoni: Reprieve as 12-Year-Old Girl Abducted in Kamkunji Is Rescued, Suspect Arrested in Kitui

Source: Twitter The 12-year-old girl was abducted from the Kamkunji area in Nairobi on Sunday, January 21, by a lady identified as Teresia Dominic. In a statement on Friday, January 27, former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko said the girl was found in Kyangulu Hills in Kitui county. "A 12-year-old school girl at Kariokok Methodist Primary School, Joy Muthoni, who was abducted at Gikomba, Kamkunji by an unknown woman pretending to be a househelp in search of a job, has been found alive around Kyangulu Hills in Kitui county and the suspect who abducted her has been arrested," he said. Sonko had offered a KSh 300,000 reward for any leads that would help get Muthoni, who was last seen in a CCTV footage walking with her kidnapper. How was Muthoni rescued Muthoni's father, James Mwangi, said they received a call from the neighbour of the the house Joy was staying after they realised she was not going to school. When the neighbour asked why she was not going to school, she explained that the place wasn't her home. The neighbour asked for her parents' number, and she called Joy's mother. After confirming it was her, they travelled to Kitui to pick her up. Sonko thanked the DCI officers and Nairobi regional security heads for intervening and helping rescue the girl. "Our sincere compliments go to Amin and the entire DCI teams both from Kamkunji and Nairobi Regional Headquarters, not forgetting police officers from Tulia police station led by the OCS Nzuki," he said.
