John Matara Never Paid Cash For Food, Chips, Bhajia Vendor Discloses

John Matara is the main suspect in the brutal killing of socialite Starlet Wahu, who was found lifeless in a rented room in Nairobi's South B a week ago. A chips vendor said that John Matara preferred making all payments via mobile money. John Matara's arrest and detention Police obtained extended detention orders to detain Matara for 21 days, as Kenyan law requires arrested suspects to be presented in court within 24 hours. Emerging details from the investigation of Matara indicate that he was a polite man who was Godfearing and diligently and joyfully served in the church.  In a report by Citizen TV, his childhood friends at Daraja Mbili Seventh Day Adventist Church, Matara, used to arrive early for bible study, sang well, and would quickly break down complex issues while helping others understand lessons. John Matara's childhood in church Interesting revelations by the caretaker of the house he had rented in Kahawa West show that Matara loved his bottle and had many girlfriends but was a man of few words who never had friction with his neighbours. "He was quiet and went about his business without bothering anyone. I only followed him up for rent in December 2023, when he delayed making payments. He told me to wait and disappeared for about four days, but when he returned, he paid," the caretaker said. The caretaker's description of Matara matched a food vendor who regularly sold bhajia, a chili bite made of chopped potatoes coated in spiced dough and deep-fried.  According to Halima Makena, the suspect was polite, and she was shocked to find out that he had been arrested over the brutal killing of Wahu and linked to a syndicate of serial killers and robbers. John Matara's love for bhajia "He used to be a polite person. He used to buy bhajia from me, and it is shocking that he could be involved in what I have heard," she said. The only peculiar thing that Halima observed about Matara was that he never paid for food in cash. "He was a customer with few words. One unique thing about him was that he never paid in cash. He always requested to pay using mobile money transfer platforms. He would come for bhajia worth KSh 50, pay, and silently walk away," Makena recounted. Some of Matara's friends and schoolmates have opened up about the kind of person the suspect in Starlet Wahu's killing was like.
