DCI sleuths now arrest another key suspect in the murder of Sniper

Detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday, January 7, 2024, nabbed another suspect linked to the brutal murder of Meru-based blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper.

The sleuths camped at the rented house of Brian Mwenda, a bodaboda rider who has been described as a key individual in the brutal murder. Nairobi News understands that the suspect will be arraigned today at the Kiambu Law Courts.

He was nabbed on the outskirts of Gachanka Village in North Imenti Constituency by a team of detectives attached to the homicide wing.

“He will today be arraigned in court at the Kiambu Law Courts and the prosecution team will seek more days to detain him as investigations go on,” said a sleuth privy to the ongoing matter.

His arrest took place barely 24 hours after detectives raided the home of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza in Milimani Estate and cordoned it off as a crime scene.

Governor Mwangaza has already said that sleuths should be given ample time to work until the blogger’s family gets justice.

Muthiani’s death has attracted nationwide attention, especially after individuals working close to the governor, who is serving her first term in office, were arrested.

Those arrested include Murangiri Kenneth Guantai, the governor’s brother, Timothy Kinoti, Kenneth Mutua, Fredrick Muriuki and Frankline Kimathi.

Detectives believe that the six lured the deceased through a phone call alleging that Governor Mwangaza wanted to see him.

The blogger went missing on December 2, 2023, and his body was recovered on December 16, 2023.

A postmortem examination conducted on the body of the deceased revealed that he died of strangulation.

Government pathologist Johansen Oduor, who conducted the examination, said the blogger had marks on his neck and exhibited signs of a person who had lacked oxygen. He also had fractured ribs.
