Cops probing case of missing person after circumcision party in Imara Daima

 

Police have been allowed to hold five persons who are being investigated over a person who went missing after attending a circumcision ceremony at Imara Daima Estate in November last year.

The police had sought seven days to complete their probe but senior principal magistrate Gilbert Shikwe granted them five working days.

Those being investigated following the report made at Kware police station are Fredrick Ireri Runji, Annah Njoki Kithu, William Waka, Salim Ndeti and Alice Wanjiru Githinji.

The court heard that on November 11, 2023, Fredrick Ireri Runji and Annah Njoki Kithu who were attending the circumcision ceremony party were the ones last seen with the missing person.

The missing person is Ephantus Ngari Nyaga a male adult aged 49 years.

He is said to have gone missing on the night of November 11 after the circumcision ceremony. He has never been traced to date.

“Nyaga's phone went off immediately the other relatives left the house they were holding the party on the night of 11 November 2023,” Corporal James Nzyoka’s affidavit reads.

This led to the five being later arrested on January 5 and booked at Capitol Hill Police Station and the investigations are still ongoing.

Investigations by the police have so far established that the phone IMEI number belonging to the missing person had been paired with telephone contact numbers belonging to William Waka and Salim Ndeti.

This was a few days after Nyaga went missing on November 11,  2023.

What followed was Ndeti leading the investigators to the residential house of Alice Wanjiru Githinji within the Imara Daima area where she was found in possession of the said phone exhibit.

When interviewed, Wanjiru said she bought the phone belonging to the missing person from William Waka.

But Waka claims that he bought the phone from a person by the name 'Ean' a resident of Embakasi subcounty. He told the officers he was willing to identify him to the police for questioning.

“We are yet to trace the missing person to conclude what happened to the missing person and decide on the preferable charges against the respondents,” the DCI said.

The detectives asked the court not to release them as they may interfere with the ongoing investigations.

The case will be mentioned on Monday.
