Ahmednasir Opposes Calls by UDA MPs to Slash Judiciary Budget: "Wrong Move"

Outspoken lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has criticised plans by a section of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders to slash the Judiciary's budget in response to recent court rulings. Ahmednasir said the Judiciary needs more resources. Ahmednasir: Why does the Judiciary require more funds? In a statement on Monday, January 29, Ahmednasir said the move by the government allies was misplaced as the Judiciary requires more resources.  According to Ahmednasir, the Judiciary requires reformist leadership that will ensure the meagre resources are well utilised. "Cutting the judiciary budget is the wrong move. In fact, the judiciary needs more money/resources. But we need a judiciary that doesn't waste the meagre resources on bonding trips to Watamu, as does the Supreme Court of Kenya. We also need reformist leadership for the judiciary, too," Ahmednasir said. What UDA lawmaker said about Judiciary budget Sentiments by Ahmednasir come after a section of UDA lawmakers said the Judiciary risks budget cuts due to recent rulings that have stalled key government projects. Mogotio Member of Parliament Reuben Kiborek warned that Parliament would use its powers to punish the Judiciary over the rulings he claimed go against the public interest. "We in Parliament also have power, which is to create the budget. I want to ask you, chair of the budget (Ndindi Nyoro), that when we are creating the upcoming budget, if the Judiciary refuses to behave, let's cut their entire budget until they walk and ride bicycles in town to understand what the jobless Kenyans experience every day," Kiborek said.  Inside war between William Ruto and Judiciary President William Ruto recently insisted that corruption was prevalent within the Judiciary, promising to deal with corrupt judges sabotaging his transformation agenda. Meanwhile, CS Koome stated that it was concerning that judicial officers were subjected to unwarranted scrutiny for issuing court orders that were seen to go against the government. The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) staged protests after Ruto threatened and promised to defy court orders. ODM leader Raila Odinga slammed CJ Martha Koome for agreeing to meet the president at the state house.
