Red Fourth Choir famous for Sauti Sol's 'Kuliko Jana' takes a break after 7 years
The Redfourth Academy, behind Kuliko Jana with Sauti Sol has announced an indefinite closure "due to various economic challenges"
The choir was founded by Philp Tuju also known as Filah. The song has so far garnered 20 million views.
It was released seven years ago.
Through an announcement on their socials, Filah announced
"Dear Friends in music, We thank you for your continued support over the last few years (7 years to be exact).
The Redfourth Family has grown and has achieved great success and picked up valuable lessons along the way. We remain committed to inspiring generations and making different genres of music accessible to many. We pride ourselves in working with special needs students under the Redfourth Butterfly program. We have seen young singers and musicians grow under the Redfourth Kids program. Over 1000 youth have been part of the Redfourth Chorus that gives contemporary choral training and mentorship to young high school and college students."
The statement further read
"These young people have performed at various events across the country and staged some of the most memorable concerts and productions. Through Redfourth Vox, we have empowered individual talent by giving them a platform to perform original music and covers, enabling them to discover their music identity and build their fan base.
The Redfourth Academy of Music has been instrumental in providing formal music training in contemporary, African, and classical music to beginners and intermediate musicians. Unfortunately, we have reached a point where we need to pause and ‘get our pitch right’.Due to various economic challenges resulting from unpaid dues by some of our clients, Covid period debts, lack of financial adequate support for our special needs programs and scholarships, premature business expansion, and generally the current tough economic times, we are unable to continue with our normal operations. We are currently facing eviction and auction from one of our premises and would not want to incur further financial strain until we are stable."
In conclusion, he added
"We will be pausing our normal operations until we can be able to stabilize and find a sustainable operating model. We do hope that things will stabilize sooner and we will get the much-needed support. We are very much open to any support that can be given financially or in kind like instruments and music books. Donations are welcome & appreciated. Use our M-PESA till number 673054. Call us on 0715209156. We will be back better, stronger and wiser .Thank you. Thank You. THANK YOU."
