Passaris: Why Christmas Caravan won’t happen this year

Nairobi Women's Representative Esther Passaris has announced that she won't be organizing the Christmas Caravan this year.

The Christmas Caravan in previous years, involved Passaris visiting different sections of the county, including informal settlements, to distribute Christmas gifts such as foodstuffs and other necessities to residents.

Passaris response

In response to a request for 'Christmas' from a netizen named James Okeyo, Passaris explained that the caravan wouldn't be happening this year due to the National Treasury's delay in releasing quarter one and two funds.

She apologized for the inconvenience and mentioned the importance of addressing issues such as tax payments, managing debts, and combating corruption to improve the situation.

"No Christmas Caravan this year as the Treasury is yet to release quarter one and two funds. I am sorry. To move things forward we need to pay our taxes; tighten our belts; pay our debts & firmly address corruption. I am prayerful and hopeful it shall be well. #MerryChristmas2023," her response on social media stated.

Passaris is among a few MPs in the opposition's Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition who supported proposed measures to expand the country's tax base amid strong opposition from the coalition's leadership.

She defended her decision to support the proposed tax measures, saying the government needs money to meet its financial obligations, including the Kenya Kwanza's ambitious development agenda.
