ODM Migori Chairman Makabong’o is dead

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is in mourning following the demise of Philip Makabong'o, the Chairman of the ODM Migori County Coordinating Committee.

The party announced the unfortunate news, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of a key member.

Makabong'o a pillar

The cause of Mr. Makabong'o's death was not disclosed by the party. However, ODM conveyed their heartfelt condolences and acknowledged his contributions to the party.

In an official statement, the party described Makabong'o as a pillar not only in Migori County but also on a national scale.

"It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Mr. Philip Makabong'o, the Chairman of ODM Migori County Coordinating Committee, and Secretary of CCCC. Phillip has been a great pillar of our Party not only in Migori but nationally. May his soul RIP," ODM announced.

In 2018, Philip Makabong'o, made headlines when he called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take action against senatorial hopefuls engaging in early campaigning.

This plea came in the wake of the vacant senatorial seat left by the late Senator Ben Oluoch Okello. Makabong'o expressed disappointment at the premature campaigning, deeming it "very unfortunate" that some political figures were already vying for the position even before Okello's funeral.

In 2019, his residence fell victim to an attack by unknown individuals who set two vehicles, a Toyota Sprinter and a Subaru, ablaze.

The incident occurred while Makabong'o and his family were asleep, creating a distressing situation for the political figure.

Earlier that same year, Makabong'o faced a personal tragedy when his son suffered serious injuries during a dispute over a 1.4-acre piece of land in the Kitere area of Rongo Constituency.
