Nancy Chepchumba: Police Officer Killed in Hit and Run Accident by Vehicle Carrying Contraband Good
A police officer in Teso North, Busia county has been killed in a road accident along the Malaba-Kanduyi Road. Nancy Chepchumba (pictured) was based at Amagoro Police Station. In a statement, Kenya Police Service said the officer, identified as Nancy Chepchumba, was killed in a hit-and-run accident at a police roadblock on the night of Sunday, December 10. "On the night of 10/12/2023, a motorist ran over a madam Nancy Chepchumba while at a roadblock along Malaga-Bungoma Road. She died," police said on Facebook. Vehicle was ferrying contraband goods According to the police report seen by TUKO.co.ke, the driver of the vehicle suspected to be carrying contraband goods from the Malaba border defied orders by police officers to stop at the Koteko roadblock near Kocholya market before knocking the officer down. "It happened that Nancy Chepchumba attached to the Amagoro Patrol Base was manning a roadblock in the said area when she was hit by a speeding motor vehicle, which never stopped after the accident, being driven from Malaba heading in the direction of Bungoma," a police report reads. Matiku said Chepchumba was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Kocholya sub-county hospital, where she was rushed for treatment. "As a result of the impact she sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Teso North sub-county hospital where she died while undergoing treatment," the report added. Police have launched a manhunt for the driver even as the body of the officer was taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, awaiting a post-mortem. It has emerged that this is the second incident of the kind to take place at the roadblock after another male police officer was knocked down by a vehicle at the same place two months ago. Traffic officer killed in Kiambu In other sad news, a Kiambu traffic police officer died on the spot after being hit by a car while manning traffic along the Kiambu Road-Northern by-pass junction. Constable Kelvin Korir was directing traffic at the junction when a Prado, which the police described as unlicensed, hit the law enforcer. A police report indicated that 33-year-old Eric Otieno Ongoya, who was driving from Nairobi to Kiambu, hit the officer and sandwiched him between the prado and another one.
