Nairobi Man Heartbroken after Losing Wife and Newborn During Delivery

A Nairobi man identified as Kevin Shitiabai is still grieving his wife and second child. Kevin Shitiabai was married to Lucy Nyambura for seven years before she died after delivering their second kid. Shitiabai's wife, Lucy Nyambura, went to give birth at a Nairobi hospital, but she never returned home. Kevin Shitiabai narrates what wife went through before death Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the father of one recounted how his wife left on November 14 to seek medical attention at a city hospital after experiencing labour contractions. "She was okay. She had finished 42 weeks, and I was away at work when she texted me to tell me she was at the hospital. She assured me everything was fine," he recalled. The loving husband went to see his wife at the facility after returning home from work, but he did not see her. "I was denied access to see her," he claimed. The following morning, Shitiabai went to see his wife, and he went to work. "I called her 8 am, and she told me she was in so much pain and when I asked her if I could go see her, she told me not to. She told me she would update me," he recalled. At around 11 am, Shitiabai called his wife, but she did not pick up. He tried again at 1 pm and 2 pm, but his calls were unanswered. He panicked and left work in Kitengela to rush to the hospital. "I later received a call from the hospital to be there urgently. I was stuck in traffic for almost 3 hours," he narrated. Upon reaching the hospital, the heartbroken father said he was taken to a private room, where the doctor gave him a detailed report of what happened, forcing them to operate on her and save the baby. Shitiabai said he was shocked by the claims and wondered what led to his wife's fall. "He told me they did an emergency Cesarean section, and the baby was okay in the nursery, but my wife was still in theatre. He told me after the successful surgery, she started bleeding excessively, and she was given three pints of blood," he narrated. He continued: "He said they were forced to remove her uterus to save her life, but they did not allow me to go into the theatre." Shitiabai said he went back to the labour ward, where his wife's belongings were, and one of the female patients approached him and told him what had happened. Shitiabai claimed the lady told him his wife was in labour, and despite calling for help, no one showed up, and she ended up falling down so hard. The father of one said he maintained his calm. "After the surgery, they brought me the uterus, and I told me they were taking her to the ICU to stabilise her. I saw her condition, which was not okay. She was unconscious and not responding," he explained. Shitiabai said he decided he would take his wife to another hospital for better treatment, but before he could do it, he received bad news. "They told me my kid was not doing well and that her brain was damaged after her mother fell down," he said. He went home and returned the following morning to check on his wife and child, and their status had not improved. Shitiabai then went to the management to demand an explanation of what transpired, and he said he was shocked by the response. "I told them I had a witness who saw my wife fall down, and the doctor admitted Nyambura fell down and promised to take her to another hospital," he claimed. Kevin Shitiabai's double tragedy Shitiabai said on Thursday, November 16, he received news his newborn child had passed away. The following morning, he went back to the hospital, but despite being promised his wife would be transferred to another hospital, nothing happened. The following day, November 17, he went back to see his wife, hoping she had improved, but she was still unconscious and couldn't speak. "In the evening, I was called back to the hospital and found several doctors surrounding my wife, trying to reinstate her. "One of the doctors told me, 'we have tried, but we could not save her.' And that is how she died," he narrated. Shitiabai said he reported the incident to the police, and DCI was following up on the case.  Shitiabai and Nyambura were married for seven years, and their first child turned five on December 11. Shitiabai's wife and their kid were buried at his home in Eregi, Kakamega county. Nairobi man loses wife after child delivery In a similar story, a Nairobi man, Victor Ambula, took to social media to mourn his wife, Zipporah Katunge. Ambula shared photos from his wife's third pregnancy baby bump shoot on TikTok, accompanied by a heartbreaking message. "So sad that you are no more, babe. It will never be easy raising these kids alone, but I believe your teachings will help the JJJs grow to be better persons. I'll always love you, dear wife," he wrote. Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Ambula, popularly known as Baba JJ, revealed that his wife passed away on October 25 at a Nairobi hospital, moments after giving birth. My wife successfully gave birth to our third-born child, a daughter, through caesarean section, but unfortunately, she died. Doctors told me she bled a lot, leading to her death," he said. Adding: "She gave birth to the other two kids through caesarean section successfully." ' The heartbroken father of three said he was informed that, despite doctors trying blood transfusion, her organs had already collapsed.
