Mountain Running World Cup 2024 schedule released
The Valsir Mountain Running World Cup for 2024 has officially confirmed a calendar comprising 13 races across 10 events and eight countries.
Kenyan athletes Joyce Muthoni Njeru and Philemon Kiriago are the defending Champions of the Valsir Mountain World Cup after winning Finalissima at Sky Gran Canaria on October 15.
Mountain Running schedule
Commencing in June 2024, the competition will kick off with the Broken Arrow Skyrace at Lake Tahoe in California. This event spans three days, featuring a short uphill race on June 21 and a classic 23km race on June 23.
July promises a packed schedule with races almost every weekend. The Grossglockner Mountain Run in Austria returns on July 7, followed by the Montemuro Vertical Run in Castro-Daire, Portugal, on July 14. The visually stunning Montee du Nid d'Aigle in France takes place on July 20, offering a breathtaking 20km, 1850m+ course.
As July concludes, the Giir di Mont in Italy returns to the World Cup circuit on a challenging 32km route on July 28. August 10 sees the renowned Sierre Zinal race in Switzerland, known for its challenging trails through the Swiss mountains.
September brings the World Cup to Casto in Italy for the Vertical and Trofeo Nasego events. On September 22, Sky Gran Canaria in Spain hosts the longest race of the season with a 44km route.
Mountain running final events
The focus shifts to Slovenia on September 31 for the classic distance event at Smarna Gora. The season wraps up with the final event in Chiavena, Italy, on October 12, determining the final podium positions after the preceding 12 races. The Val Bregaglia Trail on October 13 concludes the World Cup points tally.
In collaboration with mountain races worldwide, the World Cup, in partnership with Valsir, introduces upgrades for the season.
Gold label races will have WADA-accredited anti-doping measures. Athlete support sees increases in travel assistance and the overall prize pool, with the Valsir World Cup champions set to claim €5000 in 2024.
