Incident that caused Salasya to want to run for Kakamega governor in 2027

Member of Parliament for Mumias East, Peter Salasya has announced his intention to run for governorship in Kakamega county in the 2027 general election.

Salasya said this in anger after his luxury car was destroyed with stones by a group of youths who he claims were sent by the current governor Ferdinand Barasa.

According to Salasya, Barasa was feeling intimidated by his (Salasya's) rapidly growing popularity in Kakamega County.

"This is the person called the governor, he saw now that I told him the truth there, he knew that if I came there because people loved me in Kakamega, he saw that he should put the young people there at the gate so that Peter Salasya does not enter the funeral of the gentleman who has left us," Salasya said in front of his car broken glass with stones.

This disagreement happened just a few moments after opposition leader Raila Odinga who was present at the funeral forced Barasa and Salasya to greet each other as a way to bury their differences.

He announced that to teach Barasa a lesson, he will run for governor in 2027 regardless of whether he wins or not.

"The head of the county saw my popularity growing so he decided to sponsor the youth to destroy this car.

The handshake that Raila made between him and me was not going to work. If anyone forces me to shake hands, I will withdraw the Resolution.

There will be no other handshake between the governor and me because of this I will run for governorship in 2027, if I pass it is fine and if I fail it is also fine," Salasya said.
