The Ministry of Education has announced that learners who sat the 2023 KCPE  examination and scored above 280 marks can apply for scholarships under the Elimu Bora Program.

The Ministry through The Jomo Kenyatta Foundation (JMF) and Equity Group Foundation said it is awarding Secondary School Elimu Scholarships in all 47 Counties to needy and vulnerable learners who attained 280 marks and above in the 2023 KCPE Examination.

"For affirmative action, candidates with special needs and disabilities who attained below 280 marks will be eligible. Learners from vulnerable and marginalised Groups with 250 marks and above are also eligible," the Ministry said.

Refugee learners, both girls and boys from camp-based schools who attained 240 and 250 marks respectively will also benefit from the Scholarship Program.

Only candidates who sat the 2023 KCPE examinations from public primary schools and refugee learners from 49 Camp Based Primary Schools and those refugee learners who attended Public Primary Schools outside the camps in Kakuma, Kalobeyei and Daadab are eligible.

Additionally, the Ministry said the applicants must meet certain eligibility criteria for consideration.

The learners ought to be from poor and vulnerable backgrounds including orphans, learners from urban informal settlements, and learners whose parents/guardians are living with disabilities that have compromised their ability to meet the financial obligations of their children.

Learners whose families are affected by HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses with debilitating effects that could render parents and guardians destitute and unable to fend for their families are also eligible for the scholarships.

Learners whose families are affected by extreme poverty, rendering them unable to educate their children and those who have suffered from neglect/abuse and have no support to continue with their education can apply.

Learners with Special needs and disabilities are highly encouraged to apply.

"Interested applicants are advised to collect scholarship application forms from the nearest Sub-County Education office," the Ministry said.
