Edwin Sifuna, Gloria Orwoba Ranked Best Performing Senators as Kitui Woman Rep Shines In New Poll

 

Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna and his colleague Gloria Orwoba (a nominated senator) have been voted the best-performing senators in a new survey conducted across 47 counties. Senators Edwin Sifuna and his nominated colleague Gloria Orwoba were ranked among the best-performing legislators in the Senate.  Top-performing senators in Kenya The latest poll by Mizani Africa put the two ahead of the rest for their contributions in plenary proceedings and committee work, respectively.  Sifuna scored 74% ahead of Nyeri senator Wahome Wamatinga, who was also voted the most improved senator, scoring 70.3%. Orwoba was voted the best among the nominated senators and was favoured by the majority of Kenyans for her dedication to championing better menstrual health conditions for the less fortunate girls and women. The affordability of sanitary pads remains a huge challenge for teenage girls and women from marginalised and low-income communities. "This youthful senator, for sure, has been ahead of other nominated colleagues, especially on matters to do with menstrual hygiene among girls, more so girls from low-income families, " Haron Kibia, CEO of Mizani Africa, stated in his presentation on Tuesday, December 19. Top-performing woman representatives Kitui woman representative Irene Kasalu walked home with the most improved woman representative medal owing to the many initiatives she has launched to help and bolster women groups in Kitui.  The pollster indicated that Kasalu was active in parliament and has emerged as one of the toughest politicians in Kitui. Wamatinga was recognised for his unrelenting plenary contributions, committee activities, sponsoring of motions, and articulation of matters of devolution and national interest. Vihiga senator Godfrey Osotsi and Nandi County's Samson Cherargei came in third, scoring 67.7%. In the woman representative race, Nyandarua's Faith Gitau and Uasin Gishu's Gladys Shollei came in second and third, respectively. The survey was conducted between November 13 and December 15, 2023. According to the pollster, 58,000 Kenyans across 47 counties took part in the poll. In September, Timely Kenya ranked Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and his Homa Bay counterpart Gladys Wanga as the best-performing county chiefs.
