Couple arrested on suspicion of murder after reporting daughter's death in Dandora

Police have detained a couple after they reported the death of their six-year-old daughter in their house in Dandora, Nairobi.

The two told police the girl succumbed to chest complications and they wanted help to move the body to the mortuary on Tuesday, December 12 evening.

Police who visited the scene said they suspect that the girl was murdered. This is after they found marks on her neck and back.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they suspect the girl was strangled.

He said a plastic wire suspected to be a murder weapon was recovered at the scene and kept as an exhibit.

“We are investigating a murder in this case even though we are yet to establish the motive behind this if any,” he said.

The scene was processed and the body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Bungei said the police will ask the court to allow them to detain the couple as investigations continue.

He said he wanted to understand what transpired to lead to the death of the girl.

Meanwhile, police in Naivasha are investigating the murder of a man following a fight.

Witnesses said they saw two men quarreling with one holding a knife.

Minutes later, one of them was found lying on the ground bleeding profusely where he succumbed.

Police who visited the scene said they found a knife stuck on the left side of the neck of the deceased.

No arrest has been made so far, police said adding a hunt on the known assailant is ongoing following the Tuesday evening incident.

In Keses, Nandi County, the body of one Benson Kariki, 54 was found outside a maize store.

The body had multiple deep cuts on the head. The motive of the murder is yet to be known, police said.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
