Christopher Kenga: Kind-Hearted Lodwar OCS Donates Foodstuff To 47 Detained Eritrean Immigrants

 

It is a sigh of relief for Eritrean immigrants detained as Lodwar Police Station OCS Christopher Kenga donates items to help them owing to their vulnerability.  47 Eritreans were arrested on December 22 in Kokuro, Turkana North. Police said they had crossed from Ethiopia to Turkana in Kenya. Kenga donated sanitary towels, pampers, soaps, tissue paper, and water, among others, as an initiative of humanity. The aliens included minors (12), men (10), and women (25). It's alleged they were headed to South Africa for greener pastures when they were arrested by detectives in Kokuro. Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) apprehended two suspects accused of impersonating immigration officers. Patrick Kizengwa Kilaya and Billy Kidula were allegedly extorting money from persons seeking services such as passports and work permits, among other crucial citizen documents. One of their prey happened to be a Norwegian whom they had promised a Kenya work permit and other documents in minutes upon payment of a KSh 370,000 fee. Realising he had been fleeced, the foreigner filed a complaint with the anti-graft body, whose officers swung into action. The suspects were arrested while receiving the payment and placed in custody awaiting arraignment. The EACC further revealed it had instituted investigations into allegations that some immigration officials at Nyayo House were colluding with impostors to irregularly and fraudulently issue immigration documents. In the meantime, the Interior Ministry under Kithure Kindiki denounced the gazette notice in which charges to acquire and replace the national ID, and other fundamental citizen documents were increased. In a press statement, Kindiki observed that the charges and levies were settled without prior public participation.  "It is notified for information of the general public that Gazette Notice published by the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration relating to an upward revision of charges, fees, and levies for various services provided by the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services has been revoked to allow more public participation on the matter,” Kindiki said.
