Police couple loses child in Christmas Eve fire incident

A police officer lost his child after a fire incident at their house at Kayole Sub-County Police Headquarters in Nairobi on Christmas Eve.

In a statement on Monday, December 25, the National Police Service (NPS) said the incident occurred when the officer, Police Constable Dishon Moenga, was on duty.

Moenga’s wife, also a police officer, and their daughter were injured during the tragic incident.

Deputy Inspector General Kenya Police Service, Douglas Kanja, visited the family to condole with them for the loss of their child.

“Deputy Inspector General Kenya Police Service, Mr. Douglas Kanja, CBS, OGW spent his Christmas Day condoling with the family of Police Constable Disho Moenga who lost his child in a tragic fire incident
that burnt their house at Kayole Sub-County Police Headquarters on the night of December 24, 2023, while the Officer was on duty,” NPS said.

Kanja also visited the Officer’s wife, Police Constable Yuniah Kemunto at Kenyatta National Hospital, where she is admitted together with her daughter.

He was accompanied by Nairobi Regional Police Commander, Adamson Bungei.

In a separate incident, five houses were razed down after a fire outbreak at Riverbank in South B, Nairobi.

The fire was contained by officers from the Nairobi City County Fire Brigade alongside community members and community-based disaster response teams,

The Kenya Red Cross, in a statement on Monday, said there were no casualties.

The organisation, however, pledged to conduct a needs assessment and provide psychosocial support services to the affected families.
