Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has cautioned Kenyans against drunk driving. KeNHA published an advert warning motorists against drunk driving. In a statement on their social media platforms, KeNHA asked motorists not to drive under the influence of alcohol. With increasing cases of road accidents, KeNHA said there are serious consequences for those who drink and drive. According to KeNHA, motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol will either be jailed, hospitalised, or die. “Go ahead drink, and drive. This will be your destination, nail, hospital or morgue,” KeNHA said in a statement on X. The message by KeNHA comes at a time when the majority of Kenyans are headed to their rural homes for the Christmas and New Year season. However, Kenyans took issue with the advertisement by KeNHA, with many suggesting the advertisement was insensitive. How Kenyans reacted to KeNHA message “Go ahead, drink, and drive…below are your destinations,” KeNHA said. Ramon: “The page manager will be the first one to get to those destinations.” Maina: “Very insensitive way of sensitization.” Kihoto: “KeNHA, this alarmist message won’t scare the Kenyan driver. Our drivers will not be affected by threats so long as that police officer will accept that bribe.” Daud Ahmed “Kenha is telling Kenyans mambo ni matatu.”
