Digital content creator, brand influencer and Robert Ndegwa popularly known as Thee Pluto is pointing a spotlight on the discrepancies of American online video sharing platform YouTube when it comes to African content creators.
Sharing on his Instagram stories the controversial businessman pointed out how as a Kenyan content creator he does not reap the same joys from his content as compared to his Western counterparts.
Pluto lamented on how Kenyans barely earn anything no matter how fire their content is.
“One challenge we face as Kenyan content creators is RPM (Revenue Per Mille) issue,” started the father of 2.
For those unclear about the term, RPM is a metric that represents how much money you’ve earned per 1,000 video views. RPM is based on several revenue sources including; Ads, Channel memberships
Detailing what he meant by the RPM issue, the digital content creator went on to point out how YouTube creators in Kenya earn insanely less as compared to their counterparts in America.
“Here is a quick one… An average amount YouTube pays you for 1 M views in Kenya is 100k and an average amount a USA YouTube content creator gets paid for 1 M views is 1.2M shillings (7825 dollars)” The Pluto wrote accompanying the post with several laughing emojis.
On March 7, 2023, the controversial digital content creator shared a screenshot of his YouTube earning dashboard revealing to the public the millions he has made on the streaming platform.
Details of the screenshot back then indicated that Thee Pluto had made over Sh9 million since joining the platform.
As of now, Pluto’s YouTube channel currently has 841k subscribers, and over three-quarters of his videos have gathered over one million views.
