William Ruto Takes Credit for Ongoing El Nino Rains: "Tulienda Nyayo tukaomba Mungu"
What Ruto said about ongoing rains Speaking at a church service in Kahawa West on Sunday, November 26, Ruto recalled how he convened a prayer session at Nyayo Stadium in 2022. According to Ruto, his opponents mocked his administration for organising prayers for the sake of rain. Ruto said the ongoing rains that have not been witnessed in the last four years are because of the Nyayo Stadium prayers. "When we called for a meeting at Nyayo Stadium to pray for rain, others mocked us. But this year, we have been blessed with enough rain. This year, we got rain that we have not had in the last four years because praying is not a joke, as others imagine," President Ruto said. How El Nino is causing more harm in North-Eastern Kenya In other news, a group of leaders from the larger North Eastern region want the government to declare the ongoing El Nino phenomenon a national disaster. On Thursday, November 23, the leaders of the North-Eastern Parliamentary Group convened an emergency session to address the region's devastating and escalating humanitarian crisis. "We demand urgent government attention and action to rescue and save lives in Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir counties," the leaders said. In a statement shared by Ijara MP Abdi Ali Abdi on his official X social media platform, the leaders observed that the unprecedented El Nino rains and floods were inflicting pain and wreaking havoc in the northeastern counties. "These rains are destroying critical infrastructure, displacing communities, destroying health facilities, claiming the lives of hundreds of thousands of livestock, which are the main livelihood of our people, causing an acute food shortage, and paralysing trade," the statement further reads.
