Senate Roads Committee fines Governor Lenku Ksh500,000 for ignoring summons
The Senate has fined Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku Ksh500,000 for failing to honour summons to appear before House.
The Senate’s Roads, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chaired by Kiambu Senator Karungo Thangwa issued the fine on Monday.
The Governor had been summoned to appear before the committee over a petition on access to title deeds for properties bought at Jamii Bora Estate in Kisaju, Kajiado County.
Thangwa noted that the Committee summoned the Governor Lenku after he failed to respond to several letters on the matter.
“We wrote several letters telling the Governor to provide information on the matter. We also wrote reminders but it was not forthcoming so the committee decided to summon the Governor but today the Governor has not showed up,” Thangwa said.
“We only received a call 45 minutes before the meeting started,” he added
According to Thangwa affected persons had travelled all the way from Kajiado to seek answers from the Governor.
“The senate committee has powers to summon a governor to appear in person…,” said Thangwa.
