Njeri Maina Scolds KNEC Leadership Over Confusion in KCPE Results: “Where Was the Hurry?”

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) released this year's results on November 22, putting smiles on the faces of those who had performed well. Prudence Shalimba's results reviewed However, the joy was overshadowed by a dark blot when it emerged that there was a mixup in some of the marks. In Kakamega for instance, Prudence Shalimba's results were reviewed after she complained to KNEC about her score.. The 13-year-old scored 358 marks with 36 in Kiswahili despite it being her favourite subject, which made her question the score.  KNEC confirmed that she had scored 80 in the subject, bringing her new total mark to 409 and placing her atop her class. Njeri Maina demands officials resign It is a development that has ticked off Kirinyaga Women Rep Jane Njeri Maina, who has demanded that the officials should resign. Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, she expressed the need for parliament to see answers to the costly errors, because the issue has been recurring for a while. “KNEC must be accountable to the children and the people of this country whom they've let down,” she said. Njeri also took issue with the KSh 25 parents paid to receive the results of their students, pointing out that some were charged multiple times for the same results. “We need to know how the procurement process was done and where the profits went. Was it Safaricom? Or a third-party agent?” she questioned. KNEC promised to solve all issues As of Tuesday, November 28, KNEC said it had solved all the issues on the SMS portal regarding the misalignment of the results. The examination body advised students with complaints about their results to raise queries for review within 30 days of the results being released. Misalignment was mostly witnessed in Kiswahili, as Science and Social Studies/Religious Education exhibited errors in grading.
