Kiambu: Sick Man Dies after Discharged Patient Steals Money Meant for His Medical Procedure

Mary Wambui took her ailing husband, Julius, to the facility on Thursday, November 16, but was informed they needed to do more tests. According to Felister Wanjohi, Wambui's sister, Julius received KSh 11,000 on his phone but was defrauded by a man in the hospital. "I had promised to contribute my five thousand. Now, on Saturday evening, I heard that the money has been withdrawn. I came to the hospital yesterday, and we tried to follow up on that matter. And we hear that the thief is still inside," Wanjohi cried out. The family alleged that the money was taken by a man who was reportedly a patient at the facility before being discharged. He pretended to help Julius call Wambui before making away with the money in his phone. Wambui lamented that the case had been going on for so long, but nothing was coming out of it until her husband died waiting to undergo the tests. "It means that the case has taken so long; you've been leading us in circles until my husband passed away. He died yesterday, and that person is left with the money they withdrew via mobile phone," said. Wambui explained that it wasn't the first case and that many have reported it, but the facility's administrators have taken no action. "We tried the PIN we thought was his, but he had changed the PIN. Now, the doctors here are saying this thing has been going on for long but they are not following up," she added.
