Gladys Conje: Woman Who Returned to School at 40 Graduates with a Diploma, Gets Degree Scholarship
Gladys Gakii, aka Conje, has done it again; she has graduated with a Diploma in Criminology from Tharaka University. Gladys Conje, who returned to school at 40. Conje's mum abandons her by the river In 2019, the brave Conje made the important decision to return to school 40 years after it became apparent that she could not make it through any other means. RConje has lived a life full of problems, starting from the time she was abandoned by the river as a baby to when she lost her businesses and assets. Her education journey wasn't easy, and many people came on board to help her all the way from high school to university. Conje joined Tharaka University for a Certificate in Criminology and Security Studies, and after graduating, she joined the diploma class. Tharaka University offers Conje scholarship "I have attained a Diploma in Criminology and Security Studies. After all the struggles with school fees and upkeep, the Vice-chancellor saw my determination and thirst for education and offered me a scholarship in December last year," said Conje. "In January 2023, by the grace of God, I will step into a Bachelor's class.Thanks to Tharaka University Vice-chancellor professor Peter Kinyua Muriungi," she continued. Conje revealed that she wouldn't have made it, so she kept writing to the VC, begging him to help her realise her academic dreams. "He obliged at some point; I can only thank the university for the degree scholarship and promise to do my best not only in the school but even out there to the community. One day, I will give back. So help me God," she declared. Mum of 2 Graduates at 53, Appreciates husband and Kids In another story, Hafizah Osman could not contain her overflowing joy after she graduated with a master's degree programme in learning and professional development (MLPD). The working mother of two had returned to school 21 years after the last time she tasted formal education. She hugely appreciated her family, including her sacrificial husband and two grown-up children, who inspired her.
