Eldoret: Police Officer Shots Wife Dead, Reports to Work as Usual

 

Citizen Digital reported that Constable Maxwell Maina killed his wife, Mercy Chebet, following a domestic dispute. According to the police report, Maina's neighbour heard gunshots from his house, and when they went to check, they found the body of his wife lying in a pool of blood. “Railways and DCI Soy personnel rushed to the scene and found one Mercy Chebet having been shot twice in the chest and succumbed to injury,” the police report read. By then, the husband had gone back to the report office at the station and continued to work. According to the report, Maina had been issued a firearm at 8pm for train escort, and upon his arrest at the workstation, it was found that he had expended three rounds of ammunition. The police report indicated that there have been persistent domestic feuds between Maina and Chebet. The deceased's body was moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem.
