Okanga is known for his political activism and was criticised by his opponents, who usually used the “school dropout” card against him. This is after Okanga confessed that he dropped out of school at Standard Three, which meant he had no academic credentials. The activist disclosed that he returned to school publicly to clear any doubts about his academic moves. “I made my return to school public so that when I vie in 2027, no one will claim I forged papers,” said the activist who is eyeing Kholera ward Member of County Assembly in Kakamega county. Asked about how he balanced his active political life and academics, Okanga said he had a well-orchestrated plan that worked well in the end, reiterating that he had excelled in the exams. I would do politics and other activities during the day, but at night, I would focus on my studies. “Sometimes, I would quarrel with my wife because I had devoted my time to studying instead of having a good time with her. I sometimes put my legs in cold water in a basin to remain alert,” claimed Okanga.
