Athi River Ward representative Jeremiah Kaloi has urged parents to protect their children from raging waters, occasioned by the ongoing heavy rains in most parts of the country.
Kaloi warned the parents that since the children have closed schools for the long holiday, they should keep safeguarding and stop them from loitering along the rivers and bridges.
He specifically cautioned the residents of Kaswito, City cotton slums, Kanaani, and Kwa mangeli in Athi River Sub County, whose homes are close to River Athi to keep from hanging around the river.
“I have seen several kids hanging around the bridge across the river and it is high time for parents to talk to their children, keep them busy in the farms or indoors reading their books,” he said.
The MCA was speaking at Kyumbi town, near Machakos Town during a public participation forum on the Annual development plan for the 2024-2025 Financial Year.
Kaloi also notified residents residing near rivers in the area to immediately shift to higher grounds so as to avoid calamities.
He said there had been heavy rains and local rivers were overflowing, adding that and it’s better to remain safe than live to regret afterward.
