National Assembly Minority leaders Opiyo Wandayi and Steward Madzayo are among the 50 candidates whose names have been fronted by the Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee (PHAC) for the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH).
In a notice shared by the Parliament of Kenya, the two will be joining Kikuyu National Assembly majority leader Anthony Kimani Ichung’wah and his Senate counterpart Aaron Cheruiyot who were also nominated for the second highest honours in the country.
The award which is conferred by a sitting president is issued to statesmen such as Cabinet Secretaries, the sitting Deputy President, Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate, the First and Second Ladies, Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service.
It is awarded to a public servant who has made a notable impact in enhancing improvement in the legislature, judiciary, executive, county and national governments among others.
“It is notified to the general public that, pursuant to Section 8 (2) of the National Honors Act, 2013 the Parliamentary Honors Advisory Committee has proposed the persons listed hereunder for conferment of the corresponding national honors and awards,” the notice reads in parts.
The committee has called on members of the public to contribute their opinions regarding those nominated for the awards and honors.
All views and objections should be presented by email on or before November 14.
“It is notified to the general public that pursuant to Section 8 (2) of the National Honors Act, 2013, the Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee has proposed the persons listed for the conferment of the corresponding honors and awards. Hand-delivered documents shall not be accepted,” the notice added.
