Sauti Sol was founded back in 2005 as a Capella group by Savara, Chimano and Bien who had met at Upper Hill High School and performed in Voices in the Light, a music group at the school.
Polycarp joined later and when he did, they decided to call themselves Sauti Sol meaning Voices from the sun.
Sauti Sol had four members, vocalist Bien-Aime Baraza, saxophone Wills Chimano, drummer Savara Mudidgi and guitarist Polycarp Otieno.
Over the years the group has won a total of 36 Awards from different award shows and has also had 102 nominations since they officially announced themselves to the world.
Back in 2011, Sauti Sol won the Best Music Video and Best Fusion Artist/ Group of the Year at the Kisima Music Awards.
In 2021 they received a Grammy certificate for producing “Twice as Tall” album for Nigerian musician Burna Boy.
In the same year, they won the Best African Group at the Afrimma awards
Back in 2014, they were the first Kenyans to receive the Best African Act at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards.
2015 was the greatest year in their career as they were able to bag 15 awards from various Award shows.
Although the group performed for the last time as a band on Saturday, fans will still have some hopes as next year will also have a SolFest event.
