Two tertiary level students who went missing on October 27, 2023 have been rescued after days of being hostage in Kitengela, Machakos County.
The students, who had been lured to their captors’ hideout by a female suspect, were found locked up at an AirBnB in Elgon View apartments.
Two male suspects, identified as Brian Ombasa Omoso, 25, and Humphrey Hinga, 22, were apprehended during an operation led by DCI’s Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau detectives.
According to police, the suspects were demanding a ransom of Ksh6 million from the parents of the kidnapped students.
Investigations further revealed that the female suspect, who had introduced herself as Debbie Zablon, had separately lured the two victims to a meeting in Nairobi before handing them over to her accomplices.
An imitation of a pistol, a dagger, subscriber sim cards used to contact the parents, fake front and rear car registration plates (KDD 881M) believed to have been used during their transportation and assorted tools were also recovered from the hostage room.
Meanwhile, manhunt for the female suspect is underway.
