Kisumu Man Who Offered to Gift Land to Eric Omondi Says He’s Made Enemies in Community

Last month, Simon Odhiambo offered to slash off a piece of his ancestral land as a present to comedian Eric Omondi. Simon remains optimistic that Eric will reach out and accept his land gift. The quarter-acre parcel in Usenge would be given as a gift to thank the humorist for his philanthropic deeds that continue changing lives. Life has never been the same Simon told TUKO.co.ke that a day after his story went viral, Omondi’s manager called to initiate a conversation about the offer.However, his joy was cut short when he was called for an interview with a local TV station regarding the same issue. Simon reveals that he has found himself embroiled in controversy, claiming that the offer has made him an enemy of his community. According to him, his life has been in danger since the clan started holding several meetings about his dismissal from the land. “Some have taken me to court to cancel my inheritance, and strangers keep on knocking my door at night,” he said. Shocked about community’s reaction Simon says the negative comments and hostility he has encountered since his decision have left him feeling ostracized by his people. He disclosed that he was forced to report the matter to a police station, take an OB, and then go into hiding for a few days. “I thought it would be a great way to give back to someone who has made us laugh while helping others. I never expected to be met with such hostility,” he added. The family man clarified that his offer was purely out of goodwill and that he had consulted with his family for their support before making it public. Simon still hopeful At the moment, he is back home like he never left, rearing to face those against his decision head-on. “Is this the reward I am getting for being willing to gift Eric Omondi for his kind deeds?” he questioned. When Simon came forward with the offer, some people applauded his generosity, while others criticized the move to give out ancestral land. Meanwhile, he remains optimistic that the philanthropist will reach out again so that the two initiate the transfer process.
