Take advantage of extended hours to collect number plates, driving licenses – NTSA

 

The National Transport and Safety Authority has called on Kenyans to take advantage of the extended working hours to collect their number plates and driving licenses.

NTSA Road Safety Strategy Manager Samuel Musumba has said the move to extend the working hours was due to the high demand for the new generation plates.

NTSA on Friday adjusted its operating hours in upscaled efforts to clear the licences and number plates backlog.

In the directive given by the Authority's director general, their offices will now operate for about 11 hours, Monday to Friday.

The offices will also remain open for eight hours, for the next two Saturdays.

Musumba said the high demand for number plates and driving licenses has seen the authority serve thousands of people amid rising demand.

“The demand for number plates and driving licenses has been high so we said to help Kenyans and make services closer to the people, we need to increase the working hours a little bit so you will see us putting in more hours as we continue,” Musumba said.

Musumba said before the decision to extend the working hours, queues at the NTSA banking halls would start as early as 7 am.

“We are asking as many Kenyans as possible to please take advantage of our extra hours, come we will serve you, we have help desks now everywhere any queries now we will deal with them you don’t need to worry,” Musumba said.

“Those who have not picked up their driving licenses please come for them. We have had incidences where some of the licenses have been lying at our premises for long.”

Under the new working hours, all NTSA Banking Halls and Offices will operate Monday to Friday, from 7.30 am to 6.00 pm.

Additionally, the offices will remain open to the public on Saturday, September 30, 2023, and Saturday, October 7 2023 from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm to enable number plate collection.

“Take advantage of these working hours, we hope to clear as many requests and applications as possible and come Saturday we will still be here serving Kenyans,” Musumba reaffirmed.

The move comes a few days after Roads and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen made an impromptu visit to the NTSA headquarters to check on how the operations were going.
