Simon Gicharu: William Ruto Appoints MKU Founder New KICD Chairperson

 

TV 47 reported that Gicharu who has made a mark in the education sector in the country will serve on the board for three years effective Friday, October 13. Besides his stewardship that made MKU become the largest private university in East and Central Africa in terms of infrastructure and student enrolment, Gicharu's educational exploits extend to Rwanda where he also established MKU, Kigali. Who is Samuel Gicharu Gicharu, a seasoned educationist with over three decades of experience in higher education, also served as the chairman of the National Association of Private University Owners in Kenya (NAPOK).  During his tenure as NAPOK chairperson, he successfully advocated for the Kenyan government to review its higher education policies resulting in increased university enrolment and transition rates from high school to university. What is the mandate of KICD KICD, established in 2013 under the Ministry of Education by the KICD Act 4 (2013) of the laws of Kenya, is a government institute that advises on curriculum development and implements policies related to basic and tertiary education and training, among other areas. TUKO.co.ke earlier reported that President Ruto appointed former police spokesperson Charles Owino as the new chairperson of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC). The KIMC is the pioneer media training institute in the country, established in 1961, then known as Voice of Kenya Training School. Its core objective was to train electronic engineers and technicians for the then Kenya Broadcasting Service (KBS) before it changed in 1962 to the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC). KBC was then nationalised in 1964 and changed its brand to Voice of Kenya (VOK).
