President Ruto Reveals Plans To Increase Fish In L.Victoria To Boost Food Security

President William Ruto has said his government is putting in place measures aimed at curbing the rising cost of living, by increasing food production in the country.

Speaking in Migori county on Sunday, Ruto said increased food production is one of the ways to bring down the cost of living.

He further said that his government is focusing on fish production in the lake basin region as an alternative to maize, which is the staple food among many Kenyans.

"We have to find ways to deal with the cost of living. We have to produce more food to address the cost of living. We will give fertiliser to the farmersFood is not just maize, we must support fish production. We will restock lake Victoria, this is part of mechanisms to reduce the cost of living," Ruto said.

Among the plans he said his government has is to build 10 more fish landing sites along Lake Victoria, in each county that touches the lake.

The president added that in addition to the landing site in Sori, his administration will spend Ksh100 million to build another one in Got Kachola.

He also promised to put measures in place to prevent post harvest losses.

President Ruto has been on a four day tour of the Nyanza region, the political bedroom of opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Ruto's tour has been largely peaceful, with governors from the region attending and welcoming several development projects he has initiated.

The president has been to Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori counties.
