Policewoman Detained After Fatal Shooting Of Husband In Eldoret
An Administration Police constable based in Eldoret is in custody after fatally shooting her husband.
The incident occurred on Saturday night and was reported at Eldoret Police Station. The constable, identified as 32-year-old Lilian Biwot, is attached to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) in Uasin Gishu and serves at the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), according to police.
Preliminary investigations have shown that the tragic event followed a quarrel between the couple.
The officer is said to have been preparing to report for night duty at KEBS Headquarters when her husband allegedly tried to prevent her by hiding her uniforms, accusing her of infidelity. It’s reported that the deceased husband even threatened their three children.
Despite these challenges, the constable managed to retrieve her uniforms and proceeded to work.
Later, police said quoting wignesses, when she returned home to check on her children, a confrontation ensued, leading to the fatal incident. The husband allegedly brandished a kitchen knife, which forced the constable to discharge her service weapon.
Authorities were alerted to the scene, and they discovered the husband’s lifeless body with multiple gunshot wounds.
The constable reportedly fired eleven shots. An AK 47 rifle was recovered in a nearby thicket, where the officer had hidden it. The AP officer had instructed her maid to hand over the rifle to authorities.
The couple had three children, aged 8, 6, and 2 years, who were found in a separate bedroom after the incident and are now in the care of a relative.
The motive behind the murder appears to be domestic issues that had escalated since the deceased’s job loss in March. The husband’s body has been transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) morgue. BY CAPITAL NEWS
