Pastor TMwangi:"Dowry is a way of depreciating a woman"

In an exclusive interview with SPMbuzz, Pastor TMwangi said that if he had the opportunity to scrape off any cultural practice he would do away with the dowry payment of ladies.

The pastor openly shared how he hated the idea of having to place a prize tag on someone and wasn't afraid to share his views.

"Nakuja kwenyu kwa huyu dem naanmbiwa huyu dem ni mbuzi 99, hivyo ndio mamako alinunuliwa lazma umnunue hivyo.

Speaking as a man kwa sababu watu hefeel different allow me to say this, when a man sits in that meeting, manze umekaa kwa hiyo dowry negotiation unajiambia yaani huyu dem na hiyo urembo yote ni mbuzi 99 na ng'ombe tatu and that's why unaeza toka dowry payment upate vile ulikuwa umevalue huyo dem ustukie umekosa kumvalue coz a prize tag was placed over someone who is so precious you do not think that 300000shillings  would make their father look at you and say kijana sasa huyu ni wako."

He further added that what parents do by negotiating a pride price sounded like a business transaction and that would give a person an opportunity to devalue you.

"Some of these things ndio inafanya someone afeel nikama anakuown, unajua dowry hairudishwi na the moment budako amekula dowry na alimake ionekane hii ndio value yako for me it feeels like tunabuy people.

I've sat in those dowry negotiations and I tell you the truth in my mind najiambiaga imagine if nimekafunga ama nikowaswash nimeitishwa mbuzi 99 nimetoa cash, nimeitishwa ng'ombe tatu nimetoa cash nimelipa vitu umeniitisha i might end up misusing this person because I feel I've bought that person."

The pastor later said that knowing that the girl's family values their daughter makes people respect the girl even more.

"Kuna vitu zinatuhinder kufanya few things, one of them ni knowning that you have your people hiyo hufanya nakurespect. The moment your people look like they were the ones receiving the money to sell you, nitakudisrespect."

He finished by saying people who truly love their partners will give their all without having to feel like they bought the person.

"If you truly love someone you will give your all, but the truth is you wouldn't want to hear that this person possibly cost this amount you would honour the parents the best way you know. Cause the way you value that someone wakianza kukumabia utaona wanamdepreciate."    BY MPASHO NEWS
