Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza impeached

Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been impeached.

59 Ward Representatives voted to give the embattled County boss her marching orders, even as 10 of their colleagues skipped the Wednesday sitting. This is the second time the County Assembly has removed the Governor from office.

Through lawyers Dunstan Omari and Elias Mutuma, Kawira told the MCAs that they lacked jurisdiction over the subject matter as it was still active in the Nyeri Court of Appeal expected to be determined this coming Friday.

Kawira’s lawyers further argued that the report of public participation was conducted in one ward out of the total 15 and the report was not availed to the Governor as required by the law.

The County Assembly Members accused the Governor of gross misconduct, violation of the law, nepotism, and misappropriation of the County funds. Kawira, however, refuted all the charges.

While playing down accusations of nepotism, Counsel Omari caused a stir when he claimed that all Meru were related.

If the Court of Appeal gives the green light to the motion, it will be forwarded to the Senate for consideration.   BY KBC NEWS
